Below is the standard single door panic bolt with top and bottom door holding bolts, suitable for all public buildings in accordance with fire regulations.  Also below the outside handle that allows for access to the building from outside through the exit with the panic bolt fitted. The operation of the panic bolt from  the inside by pushing down on the cross bar over-rides the outside locking handle.  A sign 'Push bar to open'
is contained with this product and must be displayed on the inside of the door to comply with fire regulations.

Handle Supplies bill-board goes up

We got the bill-board sign up today, John from Kerry happened to drop by the store to check on something and I asked him for a hand to get my bill-board sign up.  Just to prove that there are still people out there who will lend a hand at the drop of a hat, for three hours we used the fork lift, extension ladder and an assortment of rubber tape and metal framing to get the canvass bill-board up. It was a great advantage that John from Kerry normally works as a tree surgeon with my brother.  Now at least we can tell customers who want to find our store, 'if you are at the bill-board you are only 200 meters from our warehouse store'.
                                  For anyone who wants to visit our store we are just off the Cork-Waterford duel carriageway, first exit for Carrogtwohill travelling from Cork going east, then take direction Glounthaune for 400 meters and then turn left at the finger post sign 'Handle Supplies' into our estate, once you see the bill-board. Our store is situated behind Lakewood furniture.  Full road map details on www.handlesupplies.ie

Extra security on sliding patio doors. Locking bolts to stop sliding doors being lifted

A pair of keyed alike patio door secondary security locks
I have had some people in the USA  interested in these locks.
Nobody wants there sliding patio door getting easily lifted out of the frame from the outside and opened by burglars..

These locks come in pairs and each pair is keyed alike, one key will open both.  They are available in white and gray, normally the are fitted in the top and bottom corners of the non-locking side of an external sliding patio door.  Should you wish to increase the security further on your patio door you could fit two more of these locks on the locking side of the door.  The locks are screwed to the frame, right on the corner for support, and the bolts are pushed into the door in  pre-bored holes of the correct size.  The door is thus locked in place and cannot be lifted.

Check out out web site www.emhardware.ie or call me on 021 488 3131 for more advice on fitting and to place your order.

Weiser type front door locks. Locking front door locks, Weisser locks

Entrance door locking knob  Weiser     we supply these in all types
I just got a email requesting me to sell a Weiser locking front door knob from a guy in Australia.  At first I did not realise where he was in the world I answered with advice and information on the problem.  I got an answer back asking me would I send a lock to Australia, and I said sure I would.  It appears there are so may Irish people in Australia now that someone from here advised that his broken lock was available from myself in Ireland.  Small world!!!  Keep the referrals coming.

These Weiser entrance door locks are used in some small hotel and guest houses.  There are two options available in these locks, one type has a button on the inside which is switched to lock the door on the inside, the other is called a store room variant of the lock, the inside knob has no keyhole or button, and so the door is always locked on closing from the outside.  This means you need a key to enter form the outside always.  I have hotel customers who used the store room version of the lock master keyed.  Check out my web site www.emhardware.ie or give me a call on 021 488 3131 for more advice, or if it is more convienent email me on handlesupplies@gmail.com

The latches for these locks either the standard 60-70 mm adjustable or 125 mm long.   The knobs are available in polished brass or satin chrome (brushed steel)

Front door handle replacement

Here is an example to a top of the class inquiry (genuine from today),  all the relevant information is given and it is very easy for me to tell the person that we stock this handle in white, chrome and gold colours and we can dispatch it without delay.   For others please take note of the measurements, the key ones being the distance between the centres (A), and the distance between the screws (B).  I will know most of these measurements for most of the available handles from memory, but I will need them from you to supply you with the correct replacement handle. I stock and sell all these type of handles, I can advise you on installation as well.
I'm trying to source a match for a front door handle and I've had no luck so far.  I've attached photos of the handle and the dimensions as indicated in the first attachment are:

A = 92mm
B = 122mm
C = 202mm
D = 52mm
E = 26mm

I would appreciate if you could let me know if you have this in stock and if so price.  If you don't have this in stock can you let me know if you can order it in.

Many thanks,
For the I have a table of handle measurements on my web site, www.emhardware.ie
I sell all the matching letter boxes and multi-point (long strip locks) and cylinder (barrel) locks.  Please send me any question you have either here as a comment, email me on handlesupplies@gmail.com

When an Emergency door is used as a regular door

Outside  lockable handle -Iseo

Panic bolt touch bar type -Iseo
Panic latch touch bar type -Iseo
Often I am asked 'is there some way an emergency door with the standard grey push bar type of panic exit door lock and vertical rods, can be made work as a regular door that will open and close easily.  The answer is simple and provided below.  For emergency exit doors with rudimentary grey rods closing at the top and bottom of the door, regular use as a normal latching door is not really possible.  This is because the bars that hold the door closed do not spring back and allow the door to swing closed and and latch in the closed position.

The common scenario where you need to use a door fitted with an emergency exit panic bolt for regular access to your building is easily remedied. This is made possible by the use of a touch bar panic bolt and a lever action outside access handle.   The outside access handle will operate as a normal lever handle to open the door, when it is unlocked. The touch bar panic latch will allow the door close smoothly and remain closed with the minimum of effort.  From inside the door is opened by pushing the touch bar, an action even the public can be instructed to do as a 'Push Bar to Open' sign is placed just over the touch bar.

For single doors you can use a touch bar panic latch, which latches at the center point only and is used with the lever action outside access handle, the same as with the latch action panic bolts above right.
Iseo products are shown above these are the considered one the the best available, Exidor products are shown below.  All these panic door fittings perform perfectly as emergency door exit locks but they have the added advantages outlined above.

Remove and replace your euro cylinder (barrel) lock

Double cylinder (key both sides)
· Thumbturn cylinder
                                                                                                                (key outside and knob inside)
  To remove your cylinder lock firstly unlock and open the door.

·    Locate on the front edge of the door the cylinder fixing screw, (normally a large headed screw inline with the lower end of the cylinder) remove the screw.
·    Next turn the key in the cylinder to bring the cam in line with the body of the cylinder so that it can be withdrawn - the cam is hidden in the door so this has to be judged by feel - it is normally about 25° off of the unlocked key removal position. The illustration below shows the approximate position, but it may be clockwise rather than anticlockwise as shown. Note: If the cylinder fitted has a Thumb Turn knob, there is no need to use a key, just turn the knob to align the cam.
·    Slide out the cylinder to the key (or Thumb Turn knob) side. If the cylinder catches, try turning the key to about 25° on the other side of the key withdrawal position. If the cylinder will not slide out of the door, it may be that it is being pinched by the door furniture or the locking mechanism. In this event, the door handles and/or the locking mechanism may need to be loosened so that the cylinder is free to slide out.
·    Measure and note the 2 offset dimensions from the fixing screws (see illustration above) - if the offsets are different, note which side of the door each offset applies to.
·    If necessary, refit the cylinder in the door until a replacement is purchased - the procedure is just the reverse of removal but the cam can be aligned with the body by eye.
·    You can always call us for advice on 021 488 3131 of course we can arrange to assist you . Opening of doors and replacing cylinders where keys are lost  is also a service we can provide.  We stock and sell all sizes of cylinder, see an earlier blog on having one key open your front and back doors.  To get the right size cylinder for your door you need to call us for advice or email handlesupplies@gmail.com
